Pakistan vs China vs Bangladesh: Where Should Your Clothing Brand Manufacture?

Pakistan vs China vs Bangladesh: Where Should Your Clothing Brand Manufacture?

Choosing where to manufacture is one of the biggest decisions a clothing brand makes. China, Bangladesh and Pakistan are three of the world's main apparel-producing countries, and each has different strengths. This guide compares them on the things that matter most to growing brands: minimum order quantities, product types, quality, lead times and trade terms.

Quick comparison

  • China: huge range of products and materials, advanced technology and fast supply chains — but many factories prefer larger orders, and costs have risen over the years.

  • Bangladesh: very strong in high-volume basics for big retailers — but most factories are built for large orders, so small brands can struggle to get attention.

  • Pakistan: a major cotton-growing country with a long textile tradition, strong in knitwear, fleece, denim and home textiles — and many factories accept smaller orders and custom work.

China: range and technology

China can make almost anything, from technical outerwear to accessories, and has deep supply chains for trims, zips and synthetic fabrics. It is a strong choice if you need complex products, special materials or very large volumes. The trade-offs for small brands are that many factories set higher minimums, prices have increased as wages rose, and some markets apply extra duties on goods made in China.

Bangladesh: volume basics

Bangladesh is one of the world's largest garment exporters and is known for competitive pricing on basics such as T-shirts, polos and sweatshirts made in large runs. It works best for retailers ordering thousands of pieces per style. For a start-up ordering 50–200 pieces, it can be hard to find a factory that will take the order or give it priority.

Pakistan: cotton, knitwear and flexibility

Pakistan grows its own cotton and has a complete textile chain — spinning, knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, printing and embroidery — often in the same city. Faisalabad, where ZK International is based, is one of the country's main textile centres. This makes Pakistan especially strong for cotton products such as hoodies, T-shirts, sweatshirts, joggers and tracksuits.

Many Pakistani manufacturers are family-run or mid-sized and are used to working directly with brand owners. That often means more flexibility on minimum orders, custom fits and decoration.

Minimum order quantities

For new brands, the minimum order is often the deciding factor. Large export factories in any country prefer big orders. The difference is how many smaller, flexible factories exist. At ZK International the minimum is 50 pcs per style/design, with sizes mixed — ideal for testing a first drop. Read more about small order production.

Trade terms and duties

Where you sell matters as much as where you make:

  • European Union: Pakistan currently has GSP+ status with the EU, which gives most of its exports — including most garments — duty-free access when rules of origin are met. See our page for European brands.

  • United Kingdom: Pakistan has enhanced preferences under the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme, under which most of its goods can enter the UK duty-free. See our page for UK brands.

  • USA and Australia: duties depend on the product and fabric. Ask for a DDP (delivered duty paid) quote to know your landed cost. See our pages for US brands and Australian brands.

Trade rules change, so always confirm the current duty for your product before you order.

Quality and compliance

Good and bad factories exist in every country — quality depends on the factory, not the flag. Look for:

  • Recognised certifications and audits, such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Sedex, BSCI and ISO 9001.

  • A sample-first process, so you approve quality before bulk.

  • Quality checks at each stage, from fabric to final packing.

  • Transparency — a factory visit or a live video of your production.

ZK International is GOTS approved and works to Sedex, BSCI, OEKO-TEX and ISO 9001 standards. You can visit our factory or see your production live on video.

Lead times and communication

Express air shipping by DHL or FedEx from Pakistan usually takes about 4 days once shipped, and small orders at ZK International usually take 2–3 weeks after sample approval. Clear communication matters just as much: choose a manufacturer that replies quickly, shares photos at each step and lets you track your order — our customers use our Customer Portal for approvals and real-time tracking.

So which country is best?

  • Choose China for complex, technical or synthetic products and very large volumes.

  • Choose Bangladesh for large runs of basics where price per piece is everything.

  • Choose Pakistan for cotton streetwear and knitwear, custom work and smaller minimum orders — especially if you sell in the UK or EU.
